In an effort to simply the application process for prospective physical therapist (PT) residents and fellows as well as to facilitate the admissions process for postprofessional PT residency and fellowship education programs, APTA launched the Residency/Fellowship Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service (RF-PTCAS) on September 16, 2013. RF-PTCAS provides two services, an online application for prospective participants and a web-based admissions management software for programs.
RF-PTCAS allows PT residency and fellowship applicants to use a single web-based application and 1 set of corresponding materials to apply to multiple PT residency/fellowship programs. RF-PTCAS is a service of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and is administered by Liaison International, an education information technology company located in Watertown, Massachusetts.
Similar to medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, nursing, and the other health professions, RF-PTCAS offers prospective participants a convenient way to research and apply to multiple physical therapist residency/fellowship education programs with a single online application. It is the nation's only centralized application service for applying to accredited physical therapist residency and fellowship education programs.
APTA and its partner Liaison International are excited to announce the latest evolution in physical therapist residency/fellowship centralized application service, RF-PTCAS 3.0. The RF-PTCAS team will launch a new state-of-the-art, more user-friendly application on October 1, 2014.
The new home page for applicants is designed to give applicants a clear sense of status by providing a status for each main section of the application and a new notifications section so they can access important messages. The application utilizes a responsive design so it loads on a smart phone, tablet, or laptop.
In addition, RF-PTCAS 3.0 will give residency and fellowship education programs the flexibility to customize program-specific requirements. Programs will be able to create custom essay questions, collect answers to custom application questions, and collect documents, evaluations (letters of reference), and/or prerequisites.
