Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital Sports Residency
The Houston Methodist Sugar Land Sports Physical Therapy Residency is a 12-month program of intense clinical and didactic experiences in a hospital based outpatient facility focused specifically in sports rehabilitation. As part of the clinical portion of the residency, residents will receive 1-on-1 mentoring from Board Certified Specialists in Sports and Orthopedics, as well as Fellowship trained Manual Therapists. Residents will also carry a full patient case load to allow for independent development of skills acquired throughout the curriculum. Residents will be exposed to opportunities in the didactic portion of the program that will help to significantly advance their skills in the areas of sports rehabilitation and return to activity, acute injury management, injury prevention, athlete performance enhancement, managing the specialty athlete, evidence based practice, and clinical research. In addition to the clinical and didactic portions, residents will have the opportunity to shadow leading orthopedic sports medicine physicians in the operating room, participate in live on-field experiences with certified athletic trainers, physicians, and physical therapists, work with athletes of all ages and skill levels, and mentor new residents. By the completion of the program, residents will be prepared to sit for the ABPTS Sports Certified Specialist Exam.
