Nationwide Children's Hospital Sports and Orthopedic Physical Therapy Sports Residency
Nationwide Children's Hospital Sports and Orthopedic Sports Residency Program has obtained candidate status from ABPTRFE. Though achievement of candidate status signifies satisfactory progress toward accreditation, it does not assure that the program will be accredited.
The Nationwide Children’s Hospital Sports and Orthopedic Physical Therapy Sports Residency program is a 13 month clinical residency that begins each year in July. The program allows for residents to complete clinical work at state-of-the-art sports and orthopedic physical therapy facilities in the greater Columbus area.

The resident will participate in weekly one-on one mentored patient care with our residency program staff and on field hours with our highly trained sports physical therapist and athletic training staff. Additionally, the resident will complete direct patient care in a clinic with a primarily athletic population. The principal patient range is junior high and high school age, with exposure to college and adult populations. The resident will also have many other educational opportunities including shadowing Orthopedic and Sports Medicine physicians, and a variety of on field experiences with different levels of sports participation. Weekly lectures will be provided by the residency program staff to further the learning experience. The weekly lectures help to ensure that the resident is exposed to a full range of orthopedic and sports specific conditions, including those less common conditions that may not be encountered in our typical patient population. The residency staff includes several Board Certified Sports Specialists, Board Certified Orthopedic Specialists, Vestibular Certified Specialists, Manual Therapists, and Dual-Credentialed Athletic Trainers/Physical Therapists.

Additional learning opportunities to be provided include speaking at continuing education courses, use of motion capture software for running and throwing analysis and the opportunity to work with Certified Hand Therapists, STOTT Pilates® certified
instructors, and Rock Tape® practitioners. The resident will have access to educational materials through Nationwide Children’s Hospital Medical Library that partners with The Ohio State University Library and can receive additional assistance from our Sports Physical Therapy Evidence Based Practice and Research Coordinator.

The resident will be employed full time by Nationwide Children’s Hospital and will receive a benefits package including medical and retirement(403B) plans. The salary is very competitive compared to similar programs throughout the nation.
