MedStar National Rehabilitation Network & The George Washington University Neurologic Residency
The MedStar National Rehabilitation Network & George Washington University Neurologic Residency program brings together two premier health and educational institutions in the heart of the nation's capitol to offer a specialized and unique physical therapy residency program. We have been accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association as a postprofessional residency program in neurology since 2015. Seven physical therapists have graduated from our program since its inception, and we have a 100% pass rate on the Neurologic Clinical Specialist (NCS) exam for those eligible to take the exam. Our year long residency program's curriculum includes clinical practice in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, and outpatient settings; teaching entry-level DPT students in neurology-related coursework; engaging in ongoing didactic education through the Neurologic PT Professional Education Consortium; scholarly research that is basic science, clinical, or education-related.
A "typical" week of this full-time program includes: 20 hours of independent clinical practice, 4 hours of mentored clinical practice, 3-8 hours of teaching in the GW DPT program (depending on the semester), 2 hours didactic education, and 4 hours scholarly work.
