University of Utah & University Healthcare Neurologic Residency
    The Utah Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency Program is a collaboration between the University of Utah, Department of Physical Therapy and University Healthcare.The resident will be a 75% Full-time employee, working 1500 hours at the clinical facility, This is a BENEFITED eligible position.

    The resident practices in 5 neurologic clinical settings, complete didactic coursework, assists as a teaching assistant within the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, and completes areas of professional development.

    1. Clinical program. The chosen resident will work at the University of Utah for their clinical practice. Resident will work in each of 5 settings for 2-3 months in each setting:, 1) acute neurologic and critical care, 2) inpatient rehabilitation has 3 teams a) stroke, b) SCI, and c) TBI, and 3) outpatient neurological setting. Residents receive 3 hours of mentorship weekly.

    2. Didactic coursework is completed via Neurologic Physical Therapy Professional Education Consortium and includes 26 interactive webinars and journal club development/discussion with other neurologic residents across the country (fees are paid directly to Consortium-separate cost). See http://ptneuroconsortium.org/ for more details. Residents will also be required to complete the APTA clinical instructor and advanced clinical instructor course (no fees).


    3. Teaching assistantship. Occurs within the Department of Physical therapy, teaching doctor of physical therapy students in neuromuscular management course, Fall semester and the Neuroanatomy course in Spring semester.


    4. Professional Development hours are required (60 hours), to allow broader exposure to Neurologic Physical therapy.

    You will need to have 3 reference letters. These can be from an Academician, a Physical Therapist, or an employer. New graduates are required to have an additional (fourth) letter from the Dean or Chair of their Physical Therapy program stating that they are in good standing with the program and are anticipated to have completed graduation prior to the start of this program.
